Mother-Dad-Wedding We’ll start this Family History with the wedding of Bessie Lu Henthorne (Nana) to Walter Earl Dillon (Granddad). Taken from the Winfield Daily Courier: Wedding was in her parents’ home at 1614 Fuller, Winfield, KS.  The Rev. R. C. Jackson read the vows before an archway draped with clusters of white clematis vine.  White clematis and pink petunias decorated either  side. Miss Bertha Tolle of Wichita was maid of honor.  The bride wore a pink wool jersey street dress with black accessories.  Her shoulder corsage was of gardenias and she wore gardenias in her hair. The maid of honor was dressed in a suit of pale gray corduroy with pink accents and a corsage of pink rosebuds.  The bride’s mother wore white with a corsage of pink rainbow asters. Immediately following the wedding a reception was held in the Henthorne home.  The lace covered table was attractive with its tall white tapers and crystal bowl of pink rosebuds and white daisies.  Featuring the table was a three-tiered wedding cake which was cut by the bride with a knife given to her by her grandmother, her wedding gift from the bride’s great grandmother.  Mrs. Earl Green, Miss Almedia Greever and Miss Vermath Wren assisted with the serving. After October 10, the young couple will be at home in Corpus Christi, Texas.  For going away the bride chose a beige gaberdine suit, white blouse and black accessories. Guests at the wedding included Mrs. Bess Burger of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Minnie Henthorne and Mrs. Bessie Bellman, grandmothers of the bride; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Green, Mr. and Mrs. James Paton, Mrs. J. e. Morris, Mrs. R. C. Jackson and Miss Almedia. Mrs. Dillon was reared and educated in Winfield, graduating from Winfield High School and attending Southwestern College.  She is ranked as second lieutenant with the Civilian Air Patrol as Training and Operations Officer of Squadron 752-5 in Wichita, the only all girl squadron in Kansas.  She is a member of the internal auditing staff at Beech aircraft in Wichita and student pilot, member of the Beech Flying Club. Mr. Dillon, educated in Celt, Mo., is the son of J. S. Dillon, founder of the J. S. Dillon and Sons stores.  He enlisted with the Naval Reserve in June, 1941.
